Brian Stern – Practice Founder

It is the intention of the Structural Wellness Center to create a safe, positive, and rewarding environment within which each client can observe, transform, and enrich the entirety of their self.

Combining Physical and Mental Understanding into a Single Unified Wellness Strategy.

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1999, Brian began training at the Institute for Core Energetics – a four year training program that leads to a certification in body psychotherapy.  The work was created by John Pierrakos and Alexander Lowen, students of Wilhelm Reich.  Reich was one of the visionaries that saw connections between our physical structure, our physiology, our personal history, and the shape of our lives.

The main emphases of the course were: developing sensitivity and awareness, learning the art of communication, working with the personality,  assisting clients in exploring the depth and range of their emotions, and learning to see the body as an essential component in the therapeutic relationship.

While in college Brian also began studying yoga with Joan White.  His dedication and love of the practice of yoga was instrumental in the decision to shift focus from the psychological to the physical.

Brian’s Own Journey with Chronic Back Pain

While in college Brian began studying yoga with Joan White.  As Brian’s yoga practice deepened he became accustomed to waking up in the middle of the night with intense back-pain. Soon his practice became more and more about pain management; this frustration led to the decision to deepen his knowledge of anatomy, physiology, immunology, kinesiology, embryology, histology, all the thrilling stuff…and eventually he discovered the Guild for Structural Integration where he went to study about hands-on work.

After completing his training in Core Energetics, Brian began experiencing nightly episodes of severe back pain. To combat and understand this chronic pain, Brian immersed himself in everything from therapeutic massage to histology and kinesiology.  In 2005, he enrolled at The Guild for Structural Integration to study under the guidance and mastery of Rolfer Peter Melchior and Rolfer David Davis — both graduates of the Rolf Instutute of Structural Integration in Colorado. These two teachers helped form the core of what is now the Structural Wellness Center of Philadelphia.

Brian and his team have been bringing Structural Wellness to clients across the greater Philadelphia region for more than a fifteen years. He continues studies with medical schools in the region and maintains a network of trusted  Eastern and Western healthcare, medical and therapy professionals who regularly inform and consult with the practice.

With each client relationship, the practice deepens their knowledge of their art which they believe to be the art of being a human being.

An image of a person would be clearer. In short, I think direct links from the main site to the individual pages on Square’s portal would be more effective.
